Hello all,
A short post because recently people asked where and how to get Typhoon OS for the Yamaha TX16w. Typhoon can be downloaded for free here: http://nuedge.net/typhoon2000/DownloadTyphoon2000.htm
To turn these files into a Yamaha – TX16w – readable 3.5″ floppy-disk (using a Windows computer) you’ll need WinImage: http://www.winimage.com/download.htm and a PC with diskdrive.
- Take a Double Density disk. I’ve unsuccessfully tried High Density Disks (taped to fake a DD), so I’d recommend using an original DD disk.
- Open file, browse for Typhoon 2000.imz
- Click [Format+Write disk].. wait .. wait a little longer .. finished.
Some USB-diskdrives don’t seem to work properly.
A lot of floppy-disks have deteriorated over time and could be damaged without knowing. So be patient and give it another try if things didn’t work out at once!
For those who’ve replaced the floppy-drive with a USB emulator running HXC firmware:
Download file: YamahaTX16w_HXC_Typhoon_EmptyDisk.rar
contains HXC diskimage files:
- Typhoon2000.HFE
- EmptyDisk.HFE
Hello. I am a custom beginner.
I recently got a TX16w with a Gotek USB emulator.
But it didn’t contain a blank disk image.
Is EmptyDisk.HFE different? (I renamed it and tried it, but it didn’t work.)
I would like to get a blank disk image of TX16w. How can I get and set it?
thank you.
EmptyDisk.HFE is a blanc disk image indeed. For usage in a Gotek woth HXC firmware indexed mode (without display) it should be renamed DSKA0001, or anoter number, but it must be a number following the previous numbers ons your USB stick. (or else the Gotek won’t see it). So this file should work when having: the HXCSDFE.CFG (config file), DSKA0000 (OS file) and DSKA0001 (this empty disc image file). Mind the following: the config file must be placed on the USB stick before anything else is places on it! Format > place HXCSDFE.CFG > place DSKA0000 files.
Thank you for your prompt reply. I’ll try!
I tried it, but it seems that the blank disc is not working. The LCD display number can be switched.
(Even if you change to DSKA0001 or later on the LCD display, “INSERT NEXT FLOPPY” will be displayed at the time of a new save and you will not be able to save. Similarly, the files that can be loaded will not switch.)
By the way, the data originally contained in the USB drive are Typhoon2000.hfe, FF.CFG (configuration file) and IMAGE_A.CFG.
Rename Typhoon2000.hfe to DSKA0000.hfe (successful boot) and rename blank discs in order from DSKA0001.hfe.
I feel suspicious about the settings of FF.CFG, but I’m not sure what I need.
I would be happy if I could understand the cause.
thank you.
Eventually I bought a new product and solved it. You can delete the post.
